Barcelona Unveils Team for Joan Gamper Trophy Showdown with AS Monaco

The Catalan club views the Joan Gamper Trophy match against AS Monaco as the official start to their men's first-team season. This annual fixture will take place at the Montjuic Stadium on Monday, with the French side looking to claim the trophy.

This will be the first opportunity for fans in Catalonia and beyond to see Hansi Flick's squad up close, following their recent preseason friendly tour of the United States. The tour saw Barcelona secure victories over Manchester City and Real Madrid, though they fell to AC Milan on penalties.

Given that several players were granted rest after competing in the Euros and Olympics, Flick had to rely more heavily on young and fringe players during the U.S. tour. However, against AS Monaco, the Barcelona manager is expected to field a largely experienced starting lineup.

Anchoring the defense will likely be Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is now poised to take on the captain's armband full-time following Sergi Roberto's announcement that he will be departing the club after 18 years.

Returning from a season-ending injury last term, Alejandro Balde is the youngest member of Barcelona's backline. Alongside him at center-back will be unregistered Iñigo Martínez and Andreas Christensen, while Jules Koundé is slated to start at right-back.

In midfield, two of Barcelona's standout performers during their recent U.S. preseason tour, La Masia graduates Marc Bernal and Marc Casado, will anchor the middle of the park alongside Ilkay Gündogan. Gündogan's future has been the subject of some speculation as of late.

This lineup, featuring a mix of experienced players and promising young talents, will represent Barcelona as they take on AS Monaco in the prestigious Joan Gamper Trophy match.
