A police source who knows the latest news from the scene tells CNN that at least two people died in Wednesday's shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that many police, firefighters, and emergency services workers were called to a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The shooting is thought to be ongoing. One individual is in custody and casualties have been recorded.

"As of this release, one suspect is being held in jail. The announcement stated, "Details regarding the number of casualties or their conditions are not known at this time.

The governor of Georgia says they has ordered state resources to address the high school incident.

Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp announced that he has allocated state resources to address the event at Winder, Georgia's Apalachee High School.

"I hope all Georgians will join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and throughout the state," he wrote in a post on X.

He went on, "As we gather information and take additional action in response to this situation, we will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners."

According to the county school system, students are free to exit the high school facility.

Students are being allowed to leave the building, according to the Barrow County School System, and parents have been asked to pick them up at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Georgia State Police have reported to CNN that they are responding to an active incident at the school.

According to the school system, pupils who require transportation will receive it. Officials from the system declined to comment on what transpired.

According to a representative for the FBI, special agents have been dispatched to Apalachee High School to support local law enforcement.

Additionally, FBI Atlanta stated in a post on X that "agents are on scene coordinating with and supporting local law enforcement" and that it is aware of the issue.
